Antique English George IV / William IV Rosewood Music Canterbury SOLD

This is a very superior quality and excellent example of a genuine, second quarter of the 19th century Antique, English, George IV to William IV late 1820s to early 1830s prestigious, imported, Brazilian Rosewood of excellent ‘honey’ colour and bold figuring Music Canterbury with a Grecian manner which is a result of influences obtained from ‘the grand tour’. Beneath the rack is a full width flush mounted drawer. with a pair of finely reeded turned drawer pull knobs which compliment the classic turned and reeded corner finials. all standing on a base platform with a bold reeded molding and with short turned corner positioned legs beneath which are complete with the original all brass castor assemblies beneath. On the front is an applied very well carved feature embellishment comprising of opposed French ‘C’ shaped scrolls.

The Canterbury features both French and ‘classic’ influences from the ‘old world.’

The whole is in superb condition.

These lovely items are now frequently used for housing magazines.

We were recently made aware by an American client of a lesser example available on a New York dealer web site for USD $12,000 ( and we have the screen shot to prove it ) which makes this very superior example an excellent buy..
