This is a very superior quality genuine antique French Napoleon III period Display Cabinet with a strong popular and sought after Louis XV design and decorative influence. The top is a shaped slab of spectacular coloured Agate in reds browns yellows and white
The case is of ‘breakfront’ form with the middle section protruding slightly forward and having the door. Either side the cabinet steps back a little and like the door either side plus on the cabinet ends there are vertical beveled glass viewing panels of rectangular form with a gently arched top and rounded corners. All glass panels have raised perimeter moldings. Within are two full width upholstered shelves which have gilt edge moldings and a rear mirror panel which allows displayed items to be viewed from all sides. The mirrored back panel gives the impression of a much deeper cabinet and this effect is often referred to as an illusionist cabinet.
The cabinet has a shaped banding of decorative embellishments at both the top and the bottom in the form of dimensional carved panels. The front corners are cantered and feature full height decorative and profusely foliate carved cabriole decoration. These flow to a base platform which is supported by corner positioned short complimentary carved embellished short cabriole legs / feet and the front section beneath the door there are two short squared and tapered feet in the earlier Louis XIV manner.
All carvings and moldings are smoothed by a thin coat of gesso and the whole exterior of the cabinet water gildedwhich is now mellowed by age and use.
Condition: Excellent commensurate with age and use Very minor losses to gilding which is normal and to be expected however is easily restorable.
