This is a lovely example of a genuine mid 19th Century German / Austrian Biedermeier semi pedestal Desk of Excellent style and proportions. It is made from and finished in lovely honey coloured and well figured Satin Birch with Ebony detailing. The desk has typical Pine secondary timber.
Biedermeier was a style of less ornamentation after the Napoleonic War in favour of cost efficient simple lines and designs up played by the grain in the wood.
The rectangular top has an inset black gold tooled leather writing surface and a line of Ebony inlay. The case section comprises of two semi pedestals which each have a pair of flush fitting stacked and graduated drawers which have their original brass locks, an Eboniy line inlay and Ebony shield shaped keyhole escutcheons. Above the knee hole is a wider complimentary drawer.
The vertical corners of the case section flow downwards in the form of square and tapered curved cabriole legs.
Condition: Good however requires attention to some of the veneers which will be attended to during a professional refurbishment by our restorer.

Sellers Observation: This is a lovely example that would sit equally comfortably in a traditional or a contemporary interior.
