Vintage American inlaid Georgian style SideBoard.
Vintage American inlaid Georgian style SideBoard.
This is a lovely piece of furniture and an excellent example of American top quality vintage replica furniture and in this case in the later 1700s George III style.
The shape closely follows the trend at the later 1700s for sideboards with stepped and curved ends and a clean line with no backboards, At one end is a curved drawer and at the other end a curved cupboard. The break front centre section has a full width centre drawer with brass drawer pull handles with oval backing plates. below is a deeper full width semi recessed drawer without handles which pulls open from beneath. The Side board stands on six squared and tapered legs which at the front are either side of the end curved door and drawer plus are either side of the centre drawers.
The whole is finished in Mahogany and the drawers are Oak lined.
The design is typical Georgian in that it has simple elegant clean lines and like many better pieces of the period is embellished with a profuse mount of decorative inlays. The top surface has a broard outer Satin Birch banding with folate inlays within and with outer cross banding each with Satinwood and Ebony line inlays. The vertical edge is also cross banded as is the bottom of the cabinet section including the cupboard and drawers.
The full height legs are have simulated flute like inlays at the top where attatched to the case and stylised folate inlay in the legs themselves. The drawer fronts are finished in Satin Birch and the top drawer is paneled with cross bandings and the centre panel has a typical Adam in the centre panel and Ribbons and swags surrounding the handles in the side panels. The lower drawer features a central sun burst inlay with swags on either side.
