Antique English Regency period Cuban Mahogany drop side Table.

This is a very superior quality genuine antique English Regency period 1811 - 1820 Drop Side Table also referred to as a centre pedestal Pembroke Table beautifully crafted from the finest quality heavy and dense Cuban Mahogany of excellent colour and decorative flame figuring and the drop leaves when raised are supported by discrete gate leg supports attached to the frieze section. The frieze has a ‘bull nosed profiled frieze drawer on one side and a faux drawer at the other end.

The top and frieze sections are supported on a large cylindrical column which sits in a flat quadruped platform base which has four of the best carved feet that you will find. The feet have been carved by a master wood carver are boldly folate carved and terminate in realistic carved Lion Paws which have the original all brass castor assemblies beneath. The carving also extends back under the platform base.

Seating: closed 2 people - one leaf up 3 people - both leaves up 4 people. Ideal for a small dining area.

Provenance: We have the receipt from 1981 ( a third of a century ago ) when it was purchased for one thousand three thousand and fifty pounds from George Johnson Antiques of Westbourne Grove London.

Condition: Excellent for age and use. It must have had a sheltered life in a lovely big home where it has received little use.
