If you want the best then they do not come much better than this as this really is a superb example of a very high end genuine antique English William IV period Card Table which may also be used as a Side Table or Hall table / Entrance Vestibule Table.

The rectangular top section has curved front corners and swivels then folds over so as to rest on the frieze or apron section which also provides storage for cards and other games. The inner Rosewood surface has a circular inset woven cloth playing surface.

The slightly recessed apron is vertical and flat however the bottom edge is of serpentine or undulating formation and is embellished with an applied raised central carving of apposed French “C’ shaped scrolls which then floe out along the bottom edge in both directions and around both sides with raised corner carvings.

The central column is extremely well turned from solid Rosewood and is highly bprofiled and beautifully carved. Below thecolumnis a cylindrical ipright base from which four Shaped and tapered cabriole legs flow and these are embellished with raised carvings on the top of the knees and lower ‘C’ shaped scrols terminate in upeard scrolled carved toes. Beneath are bold and beautifully carved feet with the original all brass castor assemblies beneath.

Rosewood was a highly sought after exotic prestigious Timber imported from parts of Central America and Braziland due to its high cost only used on the better pieces of furniture and usually then only in veneer form. the column, basefour legs and all the carved embellishments to the top section are all crafted from solid Rosewood and all the rosewood has been selected for its excellent figuring. As such this piece would have been custom one off made for a wealthy client by a master craftsman.

Condition: Over all excellent for age. There is the to be expected usual minor shrinkige of the end end grain which our professional restorer will attend to and the price also includes the replacement of the worn baize with the finest quality woven English baize of your choice of colour.
